Gotaplatsen
This city square was laid out for the World’s Fair in 1923. The Poseidon statue is by Carl Milles from 1931. This is Gothenburg’s cultural center and you find the Museum of Fine Arts, the Hasselblad Center, the Concert Hall and the City Theatre here.
How to get here: In the south end of Kungsports Avenyn.
The Gothenburg Cathedral
The Cathedral was designed by C.W. Carlberg and dedicated in 1815. It is built in neo-classical style.

The Skyscraper
Gothenburg Utkiken, 86 m high, gives you a good view of Gothenburg from above at the top of the "Skanska Skyscraper". You can have a cup of coffee and freshly baked pastry when enjoying the breathtaking view over the city and harbor.

Barken Viking
A four-mast bark built in 1906 in Copenhagen as a school and cargo ship. Today there are only ten of these barks left in the world and five of them are still sailing. She has a long history before she became a hotel and restaurant.

Saluhallen
This food market of both domestic and international character was built in 1986 - 89. Coming here is a pleasure, not only for your gastronomic needs but for your architectural, artistic and historic needs as well. This is the Temple of Food on the west coast.

The Fish Harbour and The Fish Church
Feskekorka was built in 1874 and on the inside there is a seafood and fish market. The building itself has a very pointy roof and looks like a church, therefore the name. An exciting place if you like to get up early and are devoted to seafood. The seafood auction starts at 7 am. Coming later in the day you can enjoy your lunch or dinner at Sjomagasinet, Le Chablis or Fiskekrogen. Don’t forget to try the tasty sandwiches.

Gothenburg City Museum
This is a fusion of the former museums of Archaeology, History, Stage History and Industrial History. It is one of Gothenburg's most beautiful and impressive buildings from the 18th century. You’ll find the remaining parts of askekarrsskeppet, the Ship of Vikings here. The collection covers life in western Sweden over the past 9000 years, including the Stone Age, the Viking Age and, of course, the tale of Goteborg itself, from the foundation in 1621 to the present day. There is a playground for kids where they can play in history.

Gothenburg Museum of Art and Hasselblad Center
This is the world’s leading museum of Scandinavian Art and Sweden's second largest art museum. The Hasselblad Center has an exhibition area at the Art Museum with different exhibitions. There are also a collection and a reference library for research purpose.

The Rohss Museum
This is a museum of Applied Art and Design. It has a number of basic exhibitions depicting European arts and handcrafts from the 17th century to the present day and 20th century Scandinavian design. Temporary displays are also arranged throughout the year.

The Banking Museum
The Goteborg City Museum shows coins and medals in a beautiful old building belonging to Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken in Chalmerska Huset.

Skansen Kronan, The Military Museum
The museum is full of weapons and uniforms of historical interest. One floor is devoted to a display showing how the fortification could be used during the 17th and 18th century. It also boasts a magnificent view of downtown Gothenburg and the harbor. The Skansen Kronan is one of two fortresses, which were built to "protect the city from the enemy".

The East Indiaman Gothenburg
Visit the shipyard Terra Nova where they are re-building a copy of the East India ship.

At the Terra Nova shipyard, situated in close proximity to Quality Hotel 11 and the large Eriksberg crane in the port of Gothenburg, The Swedish East India Company AB is currently building the East Indiaman "Gothenburg" a magnificent 18th century ship made from oak and pine. She will be an exact replica of a historical ship as regards line, hull and rigging. "Gothenburg" sank in 1745 outside Gothenburg harbor when arriving from China. Fabrics and tea were recovered from the holds, before she was forgotten until the excavation work was started in 1986. The launch of ship "Gothenburg" will take place during the year 2002. She will then sail for her maiden voyage to China, with an 80-man crew, sometime during the year 2004.
